A plane went down on a mountain in the United States last week and killed 13 people, according to reports.
The crash of a US Airways jetliner on a remote mountain in Oregon on Tuesday killed 13 passengers and crew members, according a report from the Oregonian newspaper.
Authorities believe the aircraft was a passenger plane that had just departed from Minneapolis when it crashed, the newspaper reported.
The aircraft was carrying 13 people and five crew members when it came down in the mountains about 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of Portland, Oregon.
The plane’s captain, John J. Smith, was taken to a hospital and is in serious condition.
The plane crashed into a mountain near the town of Shingleback.
A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration said it is investigating the crash.US Airways said in a statement that the airline was “deeply saddened by the loss of this jetliner.”
The airline said in its statement that Smith had been the captain and had served on the flight for the past 15 years.
