Jollabees is in talks to acquire Jack plane, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The company is interested in acquiring the plane, which it bought from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in November 2019.
The plane has been used for training exercises, but it was not yet certified to fly in the skies above the continental United States, which includes states like New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware and Maryland.
In January, the company filed a notice with the Federal Aviation Administration indicating it was considering an offer for the plane.
“We are evaluating the offer and will make a final decision once all relevant regulatory approvals have been obtained,” Jollobees said in the notice.
The person said the company was seeking a valuation of about $2 billion, which the FAA would likely approve.
Jollibes bought the plane from the Air Force in 2020.
It’s unclear if Jollibrues was negotiating to acquire the plane directly or through the sale of a plane.
The FAA requires a proposal for an acquisition to include an “independent” evaluation of whether the acquisition would be in the public interest, but there is no requirement for the company to include any financial analysis.
